LONDON (June 11): Britain’s unemployment rate fell to 6.6 percent in the quarter to the end of April, reaching the lowest level for more than five years, official data showed on Wednesday.

The rate for the February-April period compares with unemployment of 6.8 percent for the three months to the end of March, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.

At 6.6 percent, the rate was at its lowest level since December 2008.

The number of unemployed has meanwhile dropped to 2.16 million people, the ONS added on Wednesday.
